Agriculture Labor Program
The Agriculture Labor Program was formed in April 2012. It has some similarities to the former Rural Employment Services Program. The Foreign Labor Certification Unit was also transitioned to the Department of Labor's newly-expanded Division of Immigrant Policies and Affairs.
Organized under the Division, the 19-member work group includes 12 field staff, three supervisors, the State Monitor Advocate, and the Division Director, Vilda Mayuga. All members of the group are fluent in English and Spanish. They are supported by a Foreign Labor Certification Specialist and a Communications Specialist. Mayuga said, "We work in support of New York agriculture, one of the most important industries in this state."
The Agriculture Labor Program's field staff are located throughout the state. They provide job seekers and business customers access to all services available at New York State Career Centers and the Department of Labor.
Business
The Agriculture Labor Specialist can connect a business with workers and help that business gain access to all other Department of Labor services. In addition, the Agriculture Labor Specialist can educate business owners about New York State's labor laws and regulations. In most cases, this helps business owners achieve compliance without having to leave their place of business. Services for Agriculture Employers.
Workers
The Agriculture Labor Specialist can connect a worker with an employer and help that worker understand his or her rights under New York State's labor laws and regulations. The Agriculture Labor Specialist can also supply educational materials about workplace safety in agriculture, and other health and safety materials and resources. Services for Agriculture Workers.
