Labor Department Announces Job Fair in Western NY for Veterans and Their Families

Albany, NY (November 12, 2009) - State Labor Commissioner M. Patricia Smith today announced that the first in a series of three “Operation Hire: Veterans Career Fairs” will take place in Cheektowaga on Thursday, November 12. More than 55 employers will be attending the event, offering 500 jobs for veterans and their families in fields such as manufacturing, health care, the skilled trades and education.>

The job fair will take place on Thursday, November 12, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Leonard VFW Post, 2450 Walden Avenue, Cheektowaga, NY. Resume critique services will be available for all job seekers throughout the day. In addition, the Buffalo Veterans Affairs Medical Center, located at 3495 Bailey Avenue in Buffalo, will be offering round trip shuttle service to the career fair beginning at noon.

State Labor Commissioner M. Patricia Smith said, “For the second year in a row, the Department of Labor is proud to host this series of “Operation Hire: Veterans Career Fairs.” I encourage all veterans and their families in Western New York to attend this important event on November 12.”

Participating employers include: American Steamship, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers, Casey’s Truck Salvage, Carleton Technologies, IRR Supply, Local #41 - IBEW, Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Precious Plate, Quest Diagnostics, KR Communications, Kistner Concrete Products, Installs Inc., Multisorb Technologies, Norampac Industries, Niacet Corp, We Care Transportation, Waste Management, the U.S. Census, the McGuire Group, the Social Security Administration, Simon Electric and Sodexho Laundry.

Partners in the event include the Buffalo Chapter of the International Association of Workforce Professionals, the Buffalo-Niagara Human Resource Association, and the New York State Division of Veterans’ Affairs.
