Insulators and Asbestos Workers Recruit Apprentices

Albany, NY (May 06, 2011) -

The International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers, Local Union #40, will conduct recruitment from June 13, 2011 through May 28, 2012 for four insulation and asbestos worker apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Colleen C. Gardner announced today.

Applications can be obtained at the Local Union #40, 890 Third Street, Albany, NY, the second and fourth Monday of each month from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.  Applications will not be available on 10/10/11 and 12/26/11.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have at least a tenth grade education, with a passing grade in Math I.
  • Must be able work in high places like scaffold and ladders, outdoors and indoors.
  • Must sign a consent form agreeing to random drug screening, if selected.
  • Must be a resident of the jurisdiction area of Local Union # 40 for at least one year prior to the application date - Counties of Albany, Greene, Clinton, Columbia, Delaware, Schoharie, Essex, Franklin, Fulton, Hamilton, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Ulster, Warren, Washington and Sullivan.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
