Watertown, NY (December 15, 2011) -
The Electricians Joint Apprenticeship Committee of Watertown, Local Union # 910, will conduct a recruitment from January 9, 2012 through December 3, 2012 for 10 electrician apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Colleen C. Gardner announced today.
Applications can be obtained in person only at the Local Union #910, 25001 Water Street, Watertown, NY or 28 New York Road, Plattsburgh, NY from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the first Monday of each month (for the month of January, the pick-up date will be January 9, 2012), excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. Applicants must apply in person with a picture I.D. and up-to-date resume.
There is a $20 fee for the test. The applicant may request that this fee be waived. Fee waivers will be approved upon showing verifiable proof of financial need.
The Committee requires that applicants:
- Must be a minimum of 18 years of age prior to being indentured.
- Must be at least a high school graduate, or have a general equivalency diploma (GED), or have a two-year Associate Degree or higher. Upon acceptance, will be required to show evidence of successful completion of: two (2) full years of high school math of which one (1) is high school algebra or a post-high school algebra course.*
*OR: Individuals who can verify (proper documentation required) that they have worked a minimum of eight thousand (8,000) hours specifically in the Electrical construction trade, do not need to meet the requirements of the above asterisked items; Individuals who have worked a minimum of forty-five hundred (4,500) hours as a Residential Wireman under an IBEW/NECA Local Collective Bargaining Agreement (proper documentation required), do not need to meet the requirements of the above asterisked items; Individuals who have completed at least three (3) years of related instruction and forty-five hundred (4,500) hours of on-the-job training as indentured apprentices in a properly registered Electrical construction apprenticeship program not sponsored by IBEW/NECA (proper documentation required), do not need to meet the requirements of the above asterisked items. - Must provide an official transcript for high school, post-high school education, GED records and any related training - upon acceptance.
- Must submit a DD-214 to verify military training and/or experience if the applicant is a veteran and wishes to receive consideration for such training experience - upon acceptance.
- Must qualify for an interview using the electrical trade's aptitude test developed and validated by the American Institutes for Research, as administered by the JATC's test administrator.
- Must have means of transportation to and from job sites and related instruction classes. Must be able to travel to various job sites within the geographical area that this apprentice program covers: counties of Jefferson, Lewis, St. Lawrence, Clinton, Essex and Franklin.

- Must be a citizen of the U.S. or legally eligible to work in the U.S.
- Must take a physical examination and drug test prior to being indentured, required and paid for by the JATC for all applicants selected from the pool of interview applicants and.
- Must be able to read and understand English and be able to hear and understand verbal instructions and warnings given in English.
