Plumbers & Steamfitters Recruit Apprentices

Syracuse, NY (September 18, 2012) -

The Joint Apprenticeship Committee for Plumbers & Steamfitters, Local #267, will conduct a recruitment from September 26, 2012 through August 28, 2013 for 5 to 10 pipefitter apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Peter M. Rivera announced today.

Applications can be obtained at the Local #267, 150 Midler Park Drive, Syracuse, NY, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. the fourth working Wednesday of each month, excluding legal holidays,  during the recruitment period. The applicant is required to fill out the application in person.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (G.E.D) - transcript required at time of indenture.
  • Must submit a signed affidavit stating that they are physically able to do the work, which may include:
    • Working with sharp objects, hazardous machinery, and possible exposure to loud noise and respiratory irritants.
    • Prolonged standing, walking, and repeated squatting and/or bending.
    • Working under exposure to temperature extremes, such as outside on cold winter or hot summer days, or inside in confined areas where high temperatures can be reached.
    • Lifting and/or moving of heavy objects and equipment, working off ladders and scaffolds, and working in wet and muddy conditions.
  • Must pass a drug test, at the sponsor's expense, at the time of appointment.
  • Must purchase text material for use in related training classes, as required.
  • Must have transportation to and from job sites and related instruction.
  • Must provide military transfer or discharge form DD-214, if applicable.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner.  Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status.  Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs.  Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
