Carpenters Recruit Apprentices

Rochester, NY (December 09, 2011) -

The Empire State Carpenters Apprenticeship Committee, Millwrights Local Union # 1163 will conduct a recruitment from December 28, 2011 through December 20, 2012 for 10 millwright apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Colleen C. Gardner announced today.

Applications can be obtained at the following locations and times:

  • 175 North Union, Suite 4, Olean, NY, the third Wednesday of every month from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.;
  • 21 Jet View Dr., Rochester, NY, the third Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.;
  • 23 Market St., Binghamton, NY, the second and third Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.;
  • 181 Industrial Park Rd., Horseheads, NY, the second and third Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.;
  • 2660 Williams St., Cheektowaga, NY, the first Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.;
  • 3247 Vickery Rd., N. Syracuse, NY, the first Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.;
  • 23 Elm St. Suite 300, Plattsburgh, NY, every Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.;
  • 27 Warehouse Row, Albany, NY, every Thursday from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.;
  • 52 Stone Castle Rd., Suite 1, Rock Tavern, NY, every Tuesday and Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.;
  • 1000 Coffeen Street, Watertown, NY, the first Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; and
  • Workforce Solutions One Stop Career Center, New York State Office Building, Suite 202, 207 Genesee St., Utica, NY, the first Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. 

This schedule is in effect throughout the recruitment period unless there is a legal holiday. 

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old. Proof required at time of indenture.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a general equivalency diploma (G.E.D.). Proof required at time of indenture.
  • Must be physically able to perform the work required as determined by applicant statement.
  • Must submit a signed statement attesting to the minimum qualifications at the time of application.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work and school.
  • Must live within the geographical jurisdiction of Local 1163 which includes all Counties in New York State except Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Suffolk, Westchester, and New York City.
  • If applicant is a veteran, a copy of DD 214 is required after an offer of employment or indenture is made.
  • Must pass a drug test, paid for by the JATC, after acceptance into the program.
  • Must take the UBC Qualifying Math test. Score to be part of the evaluation.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
