Laborers Recruit Apprentices

Chestnut Ridge, NY (September 02, 2011) -

The Laborers’ International Union of North America, Local Union # 754, will conduct recruitment from September 14, 2011 through August 8, 2012 for five skilled construction craft laborer apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Colleen C. Gardner announced today.

Applications can be obtained at the Local Union # 754, 215 Old Nyack Turnpike, Chestnut Ridge, NY from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., second Wednesday of each month, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school or general equivalency diploma (G.E.D).
  • Must have reliable transportation to get to work sites and required related instruction.
  • Must take a post-employment drug test at an approved testing facility at the union’s expense, if required.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
