Roofers Recruit Apprentices

Hauppauge, NY (June 30, 2011) -

The United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers & Allied Workers, Local Union #154, will conduct a recruitment from July 26, 2011 through July 24, 2012 for five roofer apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Colleen C. Gardner announced today.

Applications can be obtained at the Roofers Local Union #154, 370 Motor Pkwy, Suite 1 Rear, Hauppauge, NY on Tuesday and Thursday of each month, excluding legal holidays, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., during the recruitment period.  All applications must be received by July 24, 2012.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (G.E.D.).
  • Must be physically able to perform the work required as determined by a physical exam to be completed prior to start of work, paid for by Local Union #154.
  • Must have reliable means of transportation to and from work sites and related instruction.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
