Yorkville, NY (September 10, 2012) -

The Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers, Local Union #2 (Utica), will conduct a recruitment from September 11, 2012 through August 13, 2013 for three pointer-caulker-cleaner apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Peter M. Rivera announced today.

Applications may be obtained at Whitestone A of A Veterans, 174 Whitesboro St., Yorkville, NY from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month, excluding legal holidays (when the second Tuesday of the month falls on a holiday, there will be no recruitment held during that month), during the recruitment period.  For additional information, or to request an application, applicants may call (315) 622-2081.

Applications returned by mail should be addressed to:  Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers JAC #2 (Utica), 302 Centre Dr., Albany, NY 12203 and received before the closing date.  All applications must be received no later than August 20, 2013. 

The Committee requires that applicants:

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must have a high school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
• Must be physically able to perform the work, as determined by ability to lift 50-100 lbs.
• Must have reliable transportation to and from job sites and related instruction classes.
• Must possess a valid driver's license to operate company vehicles.
• Must be a six-month resident of Local Union #2's geographic jurisdiction: counties of Hamilton, Montgomery, Albany, Schenectady, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Essex, Franklin, Warren, Washington, Clinton, Columbia, Greene, Schoharie, Oneida, Herkimer, Madison, Lewis, Onondaga, Cayuga, Oswego, Jefferson and St. Lawrence.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner.  Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status.  Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs.  Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
