The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC), Local Union #41, will conduct a recruitment from October 3, 2012 through September 25, 2013 for four electrician (housewire or residential) apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Peter M. Rivera announced today.
Applications can be obtained at the Local Union #41, S. 3546 California Road, Orchard Park, NY, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesdays of each month, excluding November 21, 2012, during the recruitment period. Applicants must apply in person.
Applicants must forward all documents, official transcripts, and evidence that they meet the “minimum qualifications” as listed below no more than 30 days from the date they obtain their application, by U.S. Mail to: Recruitment, Electrical Industry Education Fund, S-3546 California Road, Orchard Park, NY 14127. No applications or supporting documents will be accepted by any other means (i.e. not hand delivered).
To qualify for an oral interview, an applicant must meet the minimum qualifications as listed below. In lieu of items (d), (e), and (f) below, an applicant must provide a minimum of twenty-four hundred hours (2,400 hours) of residential work experience. The applicant must provide the JATC with proper documentation that defines their experience in the residential industry. This documentation must include official documents, such as tax/payroll records, notarized letters of experience confirmation, and sworn statements. The JATC will examine all submitted documentation before qualification is acknowledged.
The Committee requires that applicants:
- Must be at least 17 years old – applicants must be a minimum of 18 years of age at time of selection and indenture
- Must complete an application form, which includes statement of the following:
- physically and mentally able to safely perform or learn to safely perform essential functions of the job;
- ability to climb and work from ladders, scaffolds, poles and towers of various heights;
- ability to crawl and work in confined spaces such as attics, manholes and crawlspaces;
- ability to read, hear and understand instructions and warnings;
- ability to get to and from work at job sites anywhere within the geographical area that this apprenticeship program covers;
- ability and willingness to attend all related instruction classroom training as required to complete their apprenticeship.
- Must obtain a qualifying score of “5” or higher, using the electrical trade’s aptitude test developed and validated by the American Institutes for Research.
- Must be at least a high school graduate, or have a general equivalency diploma (GED), or, in lieu of a high school diploma or GED, have a two-year associate degree or higher.
- Must show evidence of successful completion of: one full credit of high school algebra with a passing grade, or one post-high school algebra course (e.g. Adult Education, Continuing Education, Community College, etc.) with a passing grade.
- Must provide an official transcript(s) for high school and post-high school education and training. All GED records must be submitted, if applicable.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Must submit a DD-214 to verify military training and/or experience if they are a veteran and wish to receive consideration for such training/experience.
- Must pass a drug-screen test prior to indenture. Cost of the test to be borne by the selected applicant.
- Must live within the local’s geographic jurisdiction (proof required):
Erie County – All townships – entire county
Cattaraugus County - townships of Ashford, East Otto, Ellicottville, Farmersville, Franklinville, Freedom, Lyndon, Machias, Mansfield, New Albion, Otto, Perrysburg, Persia, and Yorkshire.
Genesee County - townships of Alabama, Alexander, Batavia*, Darien, Elba*, Oakfield, and Pembroke
*that portion west of Little Tonawanda Creek; Tonawanda Creek, the city limits of Batavia (in effect prior to Feb. 1, 1970); and, State Highway No. 98 north of the City of Batavia.
Wyoming County - townships of Arcade, Attica, Bennington, Eagle, Java, Orangeville, Sheldon, and Weathersfield.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status.
