Electricians Recruit Apprentices

Orchard Park, NY (September 30, 2011) -

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee, Local Union #41, will conduct a recruitment from October 5, 2011 through September 26, 2012 for 10 electrician apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Colleen C. Gardner announced today

Applications can be obtained at the Local Union #41, S-3546 California Road, Orchard Park, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesdays of each month, excluding November 23, 2011 and July 4, 2012, during the recruitment period.

Applicants must forward all documents, official transcripts, and evidence that they meet the "Minimum Qualifications" as listed below, no more than 30 days from the date they obtain their application, by U.S. Mail to: Recruitment, Electrical Industry Education Fund, S-3546 California Road, Orchard Park, NY 14127. No applications or supporting documents will be accepted by any other means.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Be at least 18 years old at the time of application (must provide evidence of minimum age respecting any applicable State laws or regulations).
  • Must be at least a high school graduate, or have a general equivalency diploma (GED), or, in lieu of a high school diploma or GED, have a two-year Associate Degree or higher.
  • Must show evidence of successful completion of: one full credit of high school algebra with a passing grade, or one post-high school algebra course (e.g. Adult Education, Continuing Education, Community College, etc.) with a passing grade, or provide evidence of having successfully completed the NJATC Math Course.
  • Must provide an official transcript(s) for high school and post-high school education and training. All GED records must be submitted if applicable. (Note: schools shall be requested to obliterate reference to date of birth, years of attendance, graduation date, age, race and sex, if required by State law or regulation.)
  • Must be physically and mentally able to safely perform or learn to safely perform essential functions of the job either with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Must be able to climb and work from ladders, scaffolds, poles and towers of various heights; and be able to crawl and work in confined spaces such as attics, manholes and crawlspaces.
  • Must be able to read, hear and understand instructions and warnings.
  • Must be able to get to and from work at job sites anywhere within the geographical area that this apprenticeship program covers.
  • Must be able and willing to attend all related instruction classroom training as required to complete their apprenticeship.
  • Must obtain a qualifying score of "5" or higher,* using the electrical trade's aptitude test developed and validated by the American Institutes for Research.
  • * OR have a minimum of four thousand (4,000) hours of substantiated electrical construction work experience.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must submit a DD-214 to verify military training and/or experience if they are a veteran and wish to receive consideration for such training/experience.
  • Must pass a drug test - after acceptance into the program.
  • Must live within the local's geographic jurisdiction (proof required):
    Erie County - All Townships - Entire County
    Cattaraugus County - Townships of Ashford, East Otto, Ellicottville, Farmersville, Franklinville, Freedom, Lyndon, Machias, Mansfield, New Albion, Otto, Perrysburg, Persia, Yorkshire
    Genesee County - Townships of Alabama, Alexander. Batavia*, Darien, Elba*, Oakfield and Pembroke - *that portion west of Little Tonawanda Creek; Tonawanda Creek, the City limits of Batavia (in effect prior to Feb. 1, 1970); and State Highway No. 98 north of the City of Batavia.
    Wyoming County - Townships of Arcade, Attica, Bennington, Eagle, Java, Orangeville, Sheldon and Weathersfield.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
