Insulation & Asbestos Worker Recruit Apprentices

Buffalo, NY (September 25, 2012) -

The Heat & Frost Insulators & Allied Workers, Local Union #4, will conduct a recruitment from October 16, 2012 through September 17, 2013 for six insulation and asbestos worker apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Peter M. Rivera announced today.

Applications will be available at Local Union #4, 2484 Seneca Street, Buffalo, NY on the third Tuesday of the month from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a general equivalency diploma (GED).
  • Must have a valid New York State driver's license and suitable transportation to get to work and school.
  • Must sign an affidavit attesting to the ability to perform the job, which includes:
    • Lifting materials up to 30 lbs.
    • Working from ladders and/or scaffolding
    • Working in confined spaces
    • Working in hot and cold temperatures
  • Must pass a drug test after selection at the sponsor's expense.
  • Must be a resident of Local Union #4's jurisdiction, which includes:
    In New York State - The counties of Erie, Niagara, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus,Allegany and Wyoming. In Genesee County, the townships of Alabama, Alexander, Darien, Oakfield and Pembrook.
    In Pennsylvania - The counties of Warren, Potter and McKean.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status.  Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs.  Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
