Ironworkers Recruit Apprentices

Orchard Park, NY (February 02, 2012) -

The Ironworkers Joint Apprenticeship Committee, Local Union # 6 will conduct a recruitment from February 6, 2012 through February 4, 2013 for five ironworker (outside) apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Colleen C. Gardner announced today.

Applications will be available at the Local Union # 6, 196 Orchard Park Rd, Orchard Park, NY from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., the first Monday of each month, except legal holidays, during the recruitment period. Applications must be completed on-site.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (G.E.D.).
  • Must take and pass alcohol and drug testing at the time of indenture-all costs will be paid by the JAC.
  • Must live within the jurisdiction Counties of Local Union # 6:
    • All of Erie County - except northern half of Grand Island. The boundary line will be Whitehaven Road, from East River to West River. All work north of Whitehaven Road will be the jurisdiction of Local Union #9, Niagara Falls, NY
    • All of Cattaraugus County
    • In Genesee County - Townships of Alabama, Pembroke, Darien, Oakfield Alexander, Batavia (western half excluding city of Batavia)
    • In Chautauqua County - Townships of Sheridan, Pomfret, Charlotte, Arkwright, Hanover, Villenova, Cherry Creek, Ellington, Brocton
    • In Allegany County - Townships of Alfred, Allen, Almond, Andover, Centerville, Rushford, New Hudson, Cuba, Clarksville, Genesee, Hume, Caneadea, Belfast, Wirt, Friendship, Bolivar, Angelica, Amity, Scio, Wellsville, West Almond, Alma, Granger, Willing, Independence
    • In Wyoming County - Townships of Bennington, Sheldon, Java, Arcade, Attica, Orangeville, Wethersfield, Eagle, Warsaw, Gainsville, Pike, Genesee Falls
    • In Steuben County - Townships of Canisteo, Freemont, Greenwood, Hartsville, Hornell, Hornellsville, Howard, Jasper, Troupsburg, West Union.
  • Must have a valid NYS driver’s license to operate company owned vehicles.
  • Must appear for an interview to complete an application.

For further information, applicants should contact their nearest New York State Department of Labor office or the Local Union #6 at 716-875-4744. Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
