Laborers Recruit Apprentices

Buffalo, NY (November 18, 2011) -

The Buffalo Laborers' Joint Apprenticeship Committee, will conduct a recruitment from December 6, 2011 through June 5, 2012 for ten skilled construction craft laborer apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Colleen C. Gardner announced today. 

Applications will be available at the Buffalo Laborers' Training JAC, 1370 Seneca Street, NY from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (G.E.D.).
  • Must be physically able to perform the work required as determined by applicant statement with knowledge of physical requirements.
  • Must pass a physical examination and drug test at the sponsor's expense - after acceptance into the program.
  • Must have a valid driver's license to operate company owned vehicles on public highways.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status.  Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs.  Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
