New this Month

Dutchess County

Healey Hyundai recently opened a new showroom on Route 52 in Beacon. No job numbers were available.

 

The Anderson Center for Autism was recently granted approval from the Dutchess County Development Corp for up to $20 million in low-cost bond borrowing for the third phase of construction on its Hyde Park campus. The work is to include either renovating or replacing the Malcolm building, two new residence halls and a new wastewater treatment plant. The project is expected to create about 172 construction jobs and about 7 permanent jobs.

 

Orange County

The Greater Hudson Valley Health Center recently added 30 new staff to its existing workforce of 145 in Newburgh. During the next two years, the health center is expected to add an additional 20 employees as it continues to grow since moving into its $15 million, 60,000 square-foot facility on Lake Street.

Rockland County

Kohl's Department Stores announced plans to hire more than 40,000 workers nationwide for the holiday season. The retailer has several stores in the Hudson Valley Region, including one in Nanuet. They expect to hire an average of 35 employees per store and 60 for each distribution center and credit operations site.

Ulster County

LEDs America, a Florida-based manufacturer of LED lighting recently announced plans to move part of its manufacturing operations from China to Kingston. The company will continue to serve the world markets from China, but it will now serve the U.S. and Canadian markets from Ulster County.  The move is expected to create 100 jobs by early next year.

 

Precision Flow, a company that makes equipment for the solar and other high-tech industries will receive $1.5 million from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority to help the company expand its manufacturing operation. No job numbers were announced.

NEW LAST MONTH

Dutchess County

Life Medical Technologies Inc., a biomedical company that manufactures equipment for the early detection of breast cancer will move its headquarters and operations to the Hudson Valley Research Park in East Fishkill. The company will receive $2 million from Empire State Development Corporation, and is expected to create 250 jobs within three years. Life Medical Technologies will begin production early next year at the new facility formerly occupied by NXP Semiconductors.

 

Orange County Trust recently broke ground on a new office on Route 9 in Fishkill. The new branch which is scheduled to open in June 2011, will be the bank's first outside of Orange County.  No job numbers were available.

 

Save-A-Lot, a discount grocery chain will open a store in the city of Poughkeepsie. No job numbers were available.

 

Orange County

Medline Industries Inc., the largest privately-held manufacturer and distributor of health care supplies and services in the Nation, was awarded a $250,000 grant from Empire State Development Corporation. The funds will offset the purchase and installation cost of new equipment at the company's new $35 million, 500,000 square-foot facility in Wawayanda. Medline created 88 new jobs in Orange County.

 

Subway recently opened a new location in the food court at the Galleria at Crystal Run. No job numbers were available.

Rockland County

Toys R Us announced plans to hire about 45,000 employees nationwide to help with the holiday season. The company also plans to hire employees for its distribution stores. Toys R Us has several stores throughout the Hudson Valley Region.

Ulster County

EmUrgentCare, a certified medical facility providing unscheduled treatments for urgent and non-urgent illnesses and injuries for patients began construction on a new $1.3 million facility in Saugerties. The new center is scheduled to open at the end of the year. The company does have another medical center in Coxsackie. No job numbers were available.

 

Westchester County

Applebee's will open a new restaurant on Executive Boulevard in Yonkers. This will be the company 10th eatery in Westchester. No job numbers were available.

 

BioMed Realty Trust Inc. is seeking approval to build an additional 609,000 square-feet of biotechnology space at the Landmark at Eastview. Representatives of BioMed appeared before the Mount Pleasant Board seeking site plan approvals, as well as zoning amendments. Last year the company completed a $140 million expansion on the Greenburgh side. It has not been announced if any potential tenants had committed to occupying the new expansion space on the Mount Pleasant side.

 

Five Below, a value-oriented store for teens and pre-teens recently opened a new store at the Cortlandt Town Center in Mohegan Lake. The 7,500 square-feet store sells everything from candy and crafts to room decor and games at $5 or less. No job numbers were available. 

 

JoS.A.Bank Clothiers Inc., the 105-year-old Maryland-based clothing retailer will open its third Westchester store in Mount Kisco in the fall. The clothing manufacturer and retailer have nearly finished the renovation in the Mount Kisco location and anticipates a Thanksgiving grand-opening. The company also has stores in Rye and Scarsdale. No job numbers were available.

 

POP Displays USA LLC, a provider of point of purchase displays and merchandising solutions will expand its manufacturing facility in Yonkers with the help of a $300,000 grant from Empire State Development Corporation. The $1.5 million expansion will enable the company to not only expand but to also retain its existing workforce of 615 employees in Westchester County.

SYMS Clothing and Filene's Basement will opened three co-branded stores in Manhattan, Westbury and Elmsford. The Elmsford store will offer expanded designer fashions at discount prices. No job numbers were available.

Westchester County

Westchester County will no longer administer the State's Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program. Forty jobs will be eliminated when the county's contract expires at the end of December. Families receiving such assistance will not be affected, as the aim is to shift responsibilities back to the State.

Pathmark, a supermarket that has been a mainstay of the Monsey neighborhood on the border of Spring Valley will close in October 2010. The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company which owns the store announced in August that it planned to close 25 stores in five states as part of a cost-saving move. The company also operates A&P, Food Emporium and Walbaum's. No job numbers were available.
