| North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System | Nassau | 07-09-2007 | In answer to the shortage of electroencephalographic (EEG) technicians on Long Island North Shore-LIJ Hospital in New Hyde Park (Nassau County) has created its own in-house training program. The health system’s Center for Learning and Innovation built the 15-month program in association with Farmingdale (Suffolk County) State College, and invited its entire staff to apply. So far 17 employees have enrolled, and the hospital has spent $135,065 – or $7,945 per student - on the program. The graduates earn a certificate and 18 credits towards a degree at Farmingdale State if they decide to study there in the future. (Newsday – July 9, 2007) | ||||
| Northrop Grumman | Nassau | 07-11-2007 | Northrop Grumman, based in Bethpage (Nassau County), received a $408M contract from the Pentagon to begin production on 75 new E-2D Advanced Hawkeye airplanes to replace the Navy’s E-2C Hawkeye. The planes will be manufactured in St. Augustine, FL, but the design and electronics work will be done in Bethpage. The company intends to hire additional employees both in Bethpage and in Florida.
