Backflow Prevention Device Tester
Description
Backflow prevention devices are needed on public water systems to prevent contaminants from entering the public water system through backsiphonage or backpressure of the water and contaminants. The certified tester tests containment devices, which include double-check valves and reduced pressure zone devices, to ensure that the devices meet the requirements of acceptable containment devices.
Certification Requirements
Applicants seeking to become certified to function in New York State as a backflow prevention device tester must submit an application to the New York State Department of Health. Certificates are issued for (A.) general and (B.) limited testers. Age Requirement
There is no age requirement for New York State certified backflow prevention device testers.
Education/Experience
(A.) General Tester: An applicant must submit proof of satisfactory completion of a training course approved by the New York State Department of Health for testers of backflow prevention devices.
(B.) Limited Tester: Applicants must submit proof of employment by a manufacturer as its agent for servicing, maintaining and testing backflow prevention devices.
