Real Estate Salesperson
Description:
Under the supervision of a real estate broker, a real estate salesperson facilitates the purchase and sale of property on behalf of customers; obtains lists of property for sale with employing broker; and assists buyers (customers) of real estate to locate and purchase property (listed with employing brokers or another broker). A real estate salesperson is associated with a real estate broker to list and negotiate the sale, lease, or rental of real property for others for compensation, under the direction and guidance of a responsible broker. A salesperson cannot operate independently.
Licensing Requirements:
All applicants for salesperson licenses must complete an approved qualifying real estate salesperson course prior to applying for a license. The course consists of 75 hours of qualifying instruction. A continuing education requirement must be met every 2 years. In addition, an applicant must be of good moral character. Age Requirement:
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
Examination Requirements:
Must be sponsored by a licensed New York State real estate broker.
Examination Description:
Written (must pass a written examination before submitting an application)
Fees:
- $15 -- Written examination
- $50 -- License, 2-year term
