Veterinary Technician


The practice of veterinary technology includes the performance of services within the field of veterinary medicine by a person (called a veterinary technician) who carries out medical orders prescribed by a supervising veterinarian.

Licensing Requirements:

An applicant must file an application for licensure/registration with the New York State Education Department, Office of the Professions, to practice as a licensed veterinary technician in New York State. Applicant must be of good moral character.

Age Requirements:

Applicant must be 21 years of age.

Education Requirements:

Applicants must meet specified by the New York State Education Department.

Examination Requirements:

Applicants must meet specified by the New York State Education Department.

Fees: (as of August 3, 2012)

  • The fee for licensure is $177.
  • The fee for a three-year limited license is $177.
  • The fee for a limited permit is $50.
